That's one of the many things that I just love about group exercise classes, the community that builds up around each session.
I've been going to Zumba classes for over 13 years now, and in that time I've made lots of friends along the way.
People whom I would never have met otherwise, because our backgrounds and lifestyles are so very different. I have Zumba pals who's ages range from 25 - 85!
Life throws us curve balls, maybe a move to a new town, change of physicality, bereavement....there are many reasons why you might find yourself feeling alone.
Dance fitness classes are a great place to meet new people and share in a communal love of music and dance.
It brings us together, uniting us with a shared passion for improving our well being, finding some head space and spending time with other people.
Arriving at class early gives us the time to introduce ourselves , have a friendly chat and get to know each other.
One of the reasons why the classes at The Shoreham Centre and The Heene Centre are so well attended is because of the opportunity to socialise in the cafe after class. And why not have a well earned slice of cake after smashing those calories in class beforehand!
It's especially hard when you have uprooted from your friends and family to a new town.
I know from speaking to some of you that you have purposely joined various classes in order to meet new friends. I hope that you have managed to do that, but if not, don't worry there's still time and opportunity. Possibly you are a bit shy, and find it difficult to break the ice with new people?
I organise out of class events that give you the opportunity to mix with other classmates.
In February there's a get together, the evening of Saturday 18th at
The Amsterdam Inn, Shoreham by Sea. An informal gathering with hot and cold buffet, wine, beer & cider as well as soft drinks.
We have the private function room all to ourselves and I'll be bringing the Zumba and BollyX music that you all know and love.....so there could be some dancing too!
Can't make this event? Well don't worry.
There's plenty more occasions in the pipeline - kicking off with the Fundraiser on 1.4.23 in Shoreham. A great chance to meet the people from all my classes under one roof.
Last year we had a lovely picnic one Sunday afternoon - it was very well attended and so I will be organising another one in the Summer.
And if you're really, really, keen..........You could join me in Greece in May for the Yoga Fit retreat holiday.
A week of activities at a 4 star all inclusive hotel on the beach in the South of Greece.
A few of you have already booked to come along.
It's going to be a blast!!!
