If you’ve ever felt confused by the constant stream of fitness advice online, you’re not alone.
One minute you’re told cardio is king, the next it’s strength training only.Stretching is essential… or is it dangerous? Protein shakes are a must… unless they’re ruining your hormones, and don’t even get me started on social media fads 🙈
So here’s something I want you to know, and really trust:
I do the learning, researching, questioning and myth busting: Sorting Fact from Fiction
My job isn’t just to bring you great music, joyful movement and a welcoming community (although that part is VERY important!). It’s also to make sure that what I teach — in class and in my blogs — is safe, evidence-based, up to date and genuinely beneficial for your health.

Why That Matters (Especially Right Now)
The fitness industry moves fast. Trends come and go, often driven by marketing rather than science. What looks impressive online isn’t always helpful — or safe — in real life.
That’s why I’m committed to:
Ongoing professional learning
Staying aligned with current health and fitness research
Understanding how exercise impacts real people, not just textbook bodies
Translating complex information into simple, practical advice that actually works
So when I suggest something in class, write about it in a blog, or gently encourage you to move a certain way — it’s not guesswork. It’s grounded in learning, experience and care.
Myth Busting: Sorting Fact from Fiction
Let’s clear up a few common fitness myths I hear all the time 👇
❌ “If it doesn’t hurt, it’s not working”
Truth: Pain is not a badge of honour. Effective exercise can feel challenging without being punishing. Progress comes from consistency, not suffering.
❌ “You’re too old to start strength training”
Truth: Strength and functional training become more important as we age. They support balance, posture, bone health, independence and confidence.
❌ “Weight loss meds mean you don’t need to exercise”
Truth: Movement helps protect muscle, support joints, improve mood and maintain long-term health — regardless of what’s happening on the scales.
❌ “You need complicated workouts to see results”
Truth: Simple, well-designed movement done regularly beats complex routines that feel overwhelming and unsustainable.
Why I Question Fitness Fads (So You Don’t Get Caught Out)
Fads usually have three things in common:
Big promises
Very little nuance
A one-size-fits-all message
Real bodies don’t work like that.
When a new trend pops up, I ask:
Is this backed by credible research?
Who is it suitable for — and who is it not suitable for?
Does it support long-term health, or just short-term results?
Is it realistic, enjoyable and sustainable?
If it passes the test — great! If it doesn’t — I’ll happily leave it on the internet and keep your classes grounded, safe and effective.
How This Shows Up in Your Classes
Whether you’re dancing in Zumba, enjoying the gentler flow of Zumba Gold, or building confidence through Lift & Laugh, the principles are the same:
✔️ Movement that supports joints and muscles✔️ Options for different energy levels and abilities
✔️ Functional strength that helps everyday life✔️ A focus on posture, balance and coordination
✔️ Exercise that lifts your mood, not your stress levels
Everything is designed so you can:
Go at your pace
Feel successful and supported
Leave class feeling energised, not wiped out

Blogs You Can Trust (Not Just Scroll Past)
My blogs aren’t written to scare you, shame you, or push extremes.
They’re here to:
Explain why certain things matter
Help you understand your body better
Break down health topics without jargon
Offer reassurance in a very noisy wellness world
If I don’t know something for sure — I’ll say so.If advice has changed — I’ll explain why, and if something sounds too good to be true — I’ll dig deeper before passing it on.
The Big Picture: Confidence, Not Confusion
My goal isn’t to make fitness complicated. It’s to make it approachable, empowering and enjoyable.
So you don’t have to:
Google everything
Second-guess yourself
Wonder if you’re “doing it wrong”
Chase every new trend
You can just show up, move your body, have a laugh — and trust that what you’re doing is genuinely good for you.
💛 Final Thought
When you come to class or read one of my blogs, you’re not just getting a workout — you’re getting experience, education and care, all wrapped up in movement that feels good.
And yes… I’ll keep doing the learning — so you don’t have to 😉
