I’m really proud to share that I’ve recently qualified as an NHS GP Exercise Referral Instructor — alongside my Level 2 Gym Instructor qualification and my Training Older Adults Levels 1 & 2.
So what does this mean for you as part of the Zumba with Jo… Let’s Go! community?
In short: even more care, confidence, and tailored support in every class you attend.

What is an NHS GP Exercise Referral Instructor?
This qualification means I’ve completed specialist training to safely support people who have been referred for exercise by their GP or healthcare professional — often due to long-term health conditions, injuries, or specific medical considerations.
It’s a nationally recognised standard used within the NHS, and it’s all about using movement as medicine, safely and effectively.
The added value for you
Whether or not you’ve come through a formal GP referral, this qualification benefits everyone in my classes:
✔️ A deeper understanding of health conditions. I’m trained to work with clients managing conditions such as high blood pressure, joint issues, diabetes, arthritis, anxiety, low confidence, and reduced mobility — with appropriate adaptations and progressions.
✔️ Exercise that’s safer and more personalised. I can offer clearer options, reassurance, and modifications so you feel confident moving at your pace, without pressure or comparison.
✔️ Especially supportive for over-40s and older adults - Combined with my Training Older Adults Levels 1 & 2, this means sessions are designed with real-life bodies in mind — balance, coordination, joint care, posture, and enjoyment all come first.
✔️ Confidence, not fear. Many people feel nervous about exercise after illness, injury, or a break from movement. My role is to help you rebuild confidence, gently and positively, in a welcoming group environment.
How this fits with Zumba with Jo
You know my classes are about joy, music, laughter, and community — and that hasn’t changed one bit,
What has changed is the depth of professional knowledge behind the scenes.
From Zumba Gold to Lift & Laugh, from in-person classes to my online video library, you can trust that everything I deliver is:
Evidence-informed
Inclusive and adaptable
Focused on long-term health, not quick fixes
Rooted in kindness, encouragement, and fun
Why I keep investing in my training
I truly believe my community deserves the very best care and guidance, not just great playlists and smiles (though those are important too 😉).
Every new qualification allows me to support you better — whether you’re:
returning to exercise after a health scare
managing a long-term condition
rebuilding strength and confidence
or simply wanting to move more and feel good doing it
Thank you for trusting me with your movement, your health, and your journey.
Here’s to dancing ourselves fit — and happy — together 💙
