“I See You”: Why No One Should Feel Invisible After 60

“I see you.”
It’s such a simple sentence. But for many people over 60… it can mean everything.
Because somewhere along the way, life changes.
The busy years of work begin to slow down, children grow up and build lives of their own,
routines shift. Roles evolve.
And without even realising it, many people start to feel… a little less visible.
Not in a dramatic way, not something you’d necessarily say out loud.
But quietly, in the background, there can be a feeling of being overlooked in a world that seems to move faster every day.

You haven’t changed — the world has
Modern life is loud. Fast. Youth-focused.
It celebrates hustle, speed, and constant productivity.
But that doesn’t mean your value has diminished.
In fact, quite the opposite.
With age comes experience, resilience, wisdom, stories, humour,
and a depth of character that simply can’t be rushed.
The truth is — you haven’t faded. The world has just got noisier.
Why being “seen” matters so much
Feeling seen isn’t about being the centre of attention.
It’s about something much deeper:
👉 Feeling like you matter
👉 Feeling connected
👉 Feeling part of something
And when that’s missing, it can quietly affect confidence, mood, and even motivation to get out and
try new things. I hear it often:
“I wasn’t sure if I’d fit in…”“I didn’t know anyone…”“I thought I might be too old…”
These thoughts are far more common than people realise.
That's why "I see you".
It’s never really about the exercise
Of course, movement is important. Staying active supports:
Strength and balance
Mobility and independence
Mental wellbeing
Energy levels
But what I see in my classes goes far beyond the physical.
I see people arrive a little unsure…and leave lighter, smiling, and more themselves.
Because what they’ve found isn’t just exercise.
It’s connection.
From strangers to friends
There’s something special that happens when people come together in the right environment.
A smile at the door, afriendly chat before class, a shared laugh when the moves go a bit wrong
(as they often do!).
And suddenly, what felt intimidating becomes enjoyable.
What felt unfamiliar becomes familiar.
And what started as “just a class”… becomes something people genuinely look forward to.
“I nearly didn’t come…”
This might be the sentence I hear most often.
And it always makes me pause, because behind it is courage.
That moment of deciding to step outside your comfort zone — even just a little — can change everything.
And more often than not, those who nearly didn’t come… are the ones who become the heart of the group.
