Move, Laugh and Reconnect This Mother’s Day in Sussex
Mother’s Day has a habit of sneaking up on us, (and yes it's only a week or so away now).
One minute we’re thinking about New Year goals, the next we’re wondering what to buy Mum this year. Flowers? Chocolates? Another beautifully wrapped candle?
But what if this year, the gift wasn’t something to unwrap?
What if it was something to experience?
Because in the middle of our busy Sussex lives — juggling work, family, caring responsibilities and everything in between — what most of us really crave is time together.
And sometimes, one shared hour can mean more than any gift.
In Busy Lives, We Forget to Truly Connect
We say it all the time:
“We must have a proper catch up.” “We need to spend more time together.” “Let’s do something soon.”
But life rolls on.
Work deadlines. School runs. Looking after ageing parents. Running businesses. Managing households. Trying to squeeze in a little self-care somewhere between it all.
Mother’s Day gives us a gentle pause.
An opportunity to step out of the “doing” and into the “being”.
And that’s exactly what happens when you come to a Zumba, Zumba Gold or Lift & Laugh class together.
For one hour:
• The phones are away.• The to-do list can wait.• You’re not mum, daughter, organiser, carer or problem-solver.
You’re simply two women moving, laughing and sharing space.
There’s Something Special About Moving Side by Side
I see it in some of my classes....
A mum and daughter exchanging a grin when the music switches to something nostalgic.
Two sisters laughing because they both went the wrong way in the same move.
An auntie and niece nudging each other during balance work in Lift & Laugh.
It’s never about getting every step right, it's about the shared moment.
The “are we doing this properly?” whisper. That’s connection, and honestly, it’s fabulous to see..

Zumba, Zumba Gold or Lift & Laugh – What Would Suit You Both?
If you’re thinking about coming together this Mother’s Day season, here’s a gentle guide:
Zumba – energetic, feel-good, fabulous music and pure joy. Perfect if you both love a bit of sparkle and sweat.
Zumba Gold – lower impact, accessible, supportive and welcoming. Ideal if you want all the fun without the bounce.
Lift & Laugh – strength, balance and core work designed especially for midlife women. Confidence-building, empowering, and yes… there's laughter too.
You don’t need to be “fit enough”. You don’t need dance experience. You don’t need matching leggings (although that might be kind of cool😉). You just need to turn up.
Different Generations, One Dance Floor
One of the things I love most about my classes across Shoreham, Brighton, Worthing, Henfield, Burgess Hill and surrounding Sussex areas is the mix of generations.
Women in their 50s, 60s and 70s. Midlife women rediscovering their strength, daughters joining their mums, and friends who feel like family.
When the music starts, age melts away, you’re not defined by your role.
You’re just moving, and that shared experience can be surprisingly powerful.

For Those Who Find Mother’s Day Complicated
Mother’s Day isn’t joyful for everyone.
Some of us are missing our mums. Some relationships are complicated. Some women long to be mothers. Some step into nurturing roles as aunties, sisters, carers or friends.
And that’s okay.
Movement can be healing.
You might come with a sister, with a best friend, with someone who feels like chosen family.
Or you might come on your own and find connection in the room.
There is always a space for you here.
Why One Hour Really Does Matter
It’s easy to think one class is “just an hour”.
But one hour can be:
A reset after a stressful week. A boost of confidence, a shared memory, a reason to laugh together.
Endorphins lift mood and movement strengthens bodies. Shared experience strengthens relationships, and afterwards? Coffee together tastes even better.
A New Mother’s Day Tradition?
Imagine this becoming your thing. Instead of just lunch and flowers, you:
Book a class together, move andlaugh. Take a slightly sweaty selfie and maybe go for coffee afterwards.
That’s a memory and that’s what lasts much longer than a bunch of flowers.
.
Your Gift This Mother’s Day
If you’d love to celebrate Mother’s Day a little differently this year, I’d be delighted to welcome you both.
Bring your mum, bring your daughter, bring your sister or auntie. Or come with someone who feels like family.
Let’s fill the room with music, laughter and that wonderful generational energy that happens when women move together.
One hour.
One playlist.
One shared experience.
So why not buy that someone a class at Zumba with Jo...Let's go!
